Wildlife is under threat, and the urgency to protect our planet has never been greater. Organized crime poses a significant danger to our environment, with criminal groups worldwide engaging in activities like wildlife trafficking, illegal mining, and waste trafficking. These activities not only harm ecosystems but also impact national security and the livelihoods of millions of people. UNODC Executive Director, Ms. Ghada Waly, highlights the severity of this issue, emphasizing the need for action to conserve wildlife and combat crime.

Unfortunately, the impact of criminal activities on the environment is often underestimated and overlooked in political discussions. Institutions struggle to effectively counter criminal groups operating with impunity. If we fail to address these challenges, future generations will inherit a planet facing even greater environmental degradation and the consequences of climate change. It is imperative that young people become part of the solution, raising awareness and contributing innovative approaches to protect our planet.

As World Wildlife Day approaches, under the theme "Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation," we invite young people to participate in the #BeWildForNature competition. Share your creative ideas on how technology and digital innovations can support wildlife conservation in Nigeria for a chance to win a LAPTOP, TABLET, OR SMARTPHONE.

Here's why you should join the #BeWildForNature competition:

Empower yourself to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and inspire positive action.

Offer solutions to address the dwindling wildlife crisis in Nigeria.

Engage in enriching conversations and interests surrounding wildlife conservation.

Stand a chance to win valuable prizes to support your advocacy and aspirations as a young advocate.

Campaign tactics:

Unleash your creativity by creating awareness through various mediums such as photos, artwork, poetry, songs, or videos.

Upload your submission on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, tagging UNODC Nigeria and using the hashtag #BeWildForNature.

Invite friends to like, comment, and follow UNODC across platforms to increase your chances of winning.

The top 10 entries will be showcased on UNODC Nigeria's social media platforms, with participants encouraged to further engage to enhance their chances of winning.

Winners will receive a brand-new laptop (first place), tablet (second place), or smartphone (third place), along with the opportunity to showcase their work to national and international audiences.

Selected participants may be invited to high-level events to share their views on a global platform.
