Tourism development is a major component of the ARISE Agenda of the current Government of Akwa Ibom State. This is a commendable policy thrust owing to the need to diversify the economy, create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth, and increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) profile of the State.
With several historical sites, enviable natural endowments and places of interest scattered across its land, Oro Nation is unarguably one of the prime tourism locations in Akwa Ibom State and indeed, Nigeria.
In line with the philosophy of Oro Nation Leadership Roundtable (OLR) to leverage the Ikpoto Okon Osung Undergraduate Essay Competition to promote scholarship and engender public interest and discourse in contemporary issues, it decided to use this 4th Edition to create more awareness on the mind blowing tourism potential of Oro Nation.
The current economic situation in the country has compelled a significant upward review of the prizes in this edition.
Unlike previous editions, Management has decided that henceforth, the winning entry will be published on social media for the benefit of the reading public, while the practice of subjecting the best five entries to oral tests to authenticate their genuineness and determine the final winners will be upheld.
